Born in Geneva Lyda first studied violin in the Geneva Music Conservatory with Ayla Erduran , a
student of David Oistrakh.


She took classes with Professor Lin Yao Ji during her stay at the Beijing Central Conservatory of
Music. On her return from China she studied law and humanities at the Geneva University and
obtained a law degree.


Later she found many affinities with the viola and its repertoire and began to perform with different
chamber music groups , following the string quartet class of Gabor Takacs and later perfecting her
studies with Professor Marie-Françoise Pallot from the Paris Boulogne Conservatory.


Musical encounters with her mother Martha Argerich opened the way to many opportunities. She
played at La Roque D’Antheron, les Folles Journées , Salzburg Festspielen , Progetto Argerich in
Lugano and Hamburg Leisz Saal Festival , along with artists such as Ivry Gitlis , Mischa Maisky ,
Augustin Dumay , Maxim Vengerov and Gautier Capuçon.


Lyda Chen Argerich performed chamber music in Tokyo Triphony and Sumida Halls, Teatro Colon,
Salle Pleyel, Salzburg Mozarteum , Elbphilharnonie Hamburg , Shanghai Grand Theater
As soloist she appeared in the Zürich Tonhalle , Singapore Esplanades , Victoria Hall .


In 2019 Lyda Chen Argerich started Arch Music Academy , a pedagogical project and multi
disciplinary approach to musical performance, proposing masterclasses and workshops in Asia ,
Europe and latin America.


She made her conducting debut in 2024 with the Shenzhen , Xi’an and Shanghai Symphony
Orchestras and world class soloists , and since then has been invited to conduct ensembles and
orchestras in Japan and Switzerland.


EMI recordings from the Lugano Festival include Beethoven, Dvorak, Schumann, Faure quartets,
Franck and Chostakovich quintets with partners such as Mischa Maisky, Martha Argerich and
Gabriela Montero.
